Traditional Roots
Alternative Dispute Resolution has long played an important role in Ghanaian society through traditional and customary methods of settling disputes. Chiefs and elders have served as mediators and arbitrators in communities for centuries.
ADR Act 2010 (Act 798)
Ghana enacted the Alternative Dispute Resolution Act, 2010 (Act 798) to provide a comprehensive legal framework for ADR practice, recognising the growing importance of structured and professional ADR mechanisms.
Court-Connected ADR
ADR gained prominence through the successful implementation of the Court-Connected ADR Programme by the Judicial Service of Ghana, significantly reducing case backlogs and promoting amicable settlement of disputes.
The ADR Centre Today
The Centre serves as the national regulatory and coordinating body for the ADR industry, working to position Ghana as a leading hub for professional ADR practice in Africa.

Welcome to the ADR Centre
The establishment of the Centre marks a significant step in Ghana's journey towards strengthening access to justice through professional, efficient, and people-centred dispute resolution mechanisms.
ADR has become an indispensable component of modern justice systems across the world. In Ghana, its importance continues to grow as individuals, businesses, communities, and institutions increasingly seek faster, more cost-effective, confidential, and amicable ways of resolving disputes.
"Our vision is to build a credible and internationally respected ADR system that inspires public confidence and contributes meaningfully to national development."
The Centre has been established to ensure that ADR practice in Ghana is guided by professionalism, integrity, ethical standards, and consistency. We are committed to standardising practice, promoting quality service delivery, enhancing practitioner capacity, and expanding access to justice for all.
We invite practitioners, institutions, stakeholders, and the general public to partner with us as we work together to build a stronger ADR ecosystem for Ghana and beyond.
